Adding Computers to an LTSP network

After you’ve built your LTSP network, you’ll need to add computers. This is a tutorial to make that process easier.

Create a generic user account (e.g. ‘student’) on your computer with a desktop background unique to your LTSP network.  Add this account to the lts.conf file (/var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/i386) and set to auto login after 5 seconds.

# Auto Login
LDM_LOGIN_TIMEOUT = 5
LDM_USERNAME=student
LDM_PASSWORD=somepassword

After setting the new machine to PXE boot, the computer will auto-login to the generic account.  Using Epoptes, you can get the mac address of the newly added computer (easy to spot with the unusual background) and add it to your lts.conf file with a  specific user account to associate with that particular machine.
